Fire Evacuation Drill

Once the fire strategy for the building has been determined and emergency plans drafted, training should be given to evaluate its effectiveness.

As well as more traditional classroom training, an evacuation drill should be performed in order to:

  • Identify any weaknesses in the evacuation strategy
  • Test the procedures drafted, particularly following any alterations to the premises or changes in working practices
  • Familiarise new members of staff with procedures and
  • Test the arrangements for disabled people.

Evacuations should be carried out at least annually and preferably six monthly in order to ensure that all occupants of the building are familiar with the procedure to be followed.

SM&MS can carry out an evacuation drill in conjunction with your employees and any tenants of the building.

On completion of the exercise a debrief will be carried out in order that any lessons may be learned.  A brief drill report will be provided for record keeping purposes.
