Water Risk Assessment - SM&MS Health and Safety Consultancy
The HSE has issued guidance on the control of legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems as well as cooling towers.
The Approved Code of Practice is entitled “Legionnaires' Disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems” and it is known by it's reference number L8.
The Code of Practice requires employers to:
- Assess the risks associated with water systems under their control
- Draw up a scheme of precautions to minimise the risks identified
- Implement the precautions identified to minimise risk
- Maintain records of the assessment and the precautions taken
- Designating persons responsible for the system and the minimisation of risk
Risk Assessment/Audits
SM&MS can carry out an independent assessment of your water systems and an audit of the precautions in place to minimise the risks identified. As we do not provide water treatment services our assessments are totally independent.
Our water samples are analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory. We can take steps to ensure that the water treatment regime you have in place is suitable and sufficient and that you are not paying for expensive treatment regimes that are not required.
All reports can be provided in hard copy or can be uploaded into our PropertyPlus on-line data management system where actions can be actively managed and closed off when completed so providing an audit trail of pro-active management of health and safety. Compliance can also be monitored in real time.
